*Note: Due to COVID-19, many of the below options may not be available. Please wear a mask and stay physically distant from others when you go out!
- We are so lucky to have the Smithsonian here in DC! Kids (and adults) love the Air and Space and Natural History Museums…and of course the National Zoo!
- I think it’s worth the drive out to Dulles to see the Air and Space Museum Udvar-Hazy Center. (Be ready to pay $15 for parking, even though the museum is free.)
- If you don’t want to walk too much, consider taking a bus or trolley tour of the city.
- Why not try bowling? Or ice skating in the winter at the Sculpture Garden (in DC) or Reston Town Center?
- When you visit National Harbor, don’t miss the Awakening statue.
- During the holiday season, there are Christmas/holiday events in Old Town Alexandria, Reston, or National Harbor.
- If you drive to Baltimore, the National Aquarium is very interesting!
- If you like spending time outdoors, two nice parks are Meadowlark Gardens in Vienna and Green Spring Gardens in Annandale.
- Virginia State Parks (especially Sky Meadows) and Shenandoah National Park are also beautiful.
- The 2 closest amusement parks are Kings Dominion and Six Flags America. If you want to drive 2-3 hours, there is also Hershey Park in Pennsylvania and Busch Gardens Williamsburg. All of these parks will close from November – March.
- For concerts, check out Wolf Trap. It’s a national park for music and the arts. In nice weather, get a lawn seat and bring a picnic!
